Season Preview - Tottenham

A typical season for Tottenham fans last year in many ways, starting with selling their best player and ending in sacking a manager, last season probably was one to forget. However, they did manage to secure Europa League qualification and this season will most likely be aiming for bigger and better things under yet another new manager.

Transfers

Everyone knows how bad a transfer window Tottenham had last year. They started with the signing of Paulinho, albeit a good player but the £17million price tag he came with raised one or two eyebrows. Soon Nacer Chadli followed him through the door, a good player in the Eredivise but a colossal flop in the big leagues. After that came the questionable selling of promising defender Steven Caulker before utter flop Roberto Soldado signed. Then Clint Dempsey was sold at a ridiculously high price and soon after Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone found themselves axed. Tottenham fans weren’t too bothered about this as soon after came Capoue, Eriksen, Lamela and Chriches, the former who will most likely be sold and the other 3 who will probably find themselves in a prominent role this season. Then, on deadline day, Gareth Bale was sold for a world record fee; something Tottenham fans knew was going to happen but didn’t particularly want to happen.

This season has been completely different to the relief of many Spurs fans. They have managed to release all players they consider not up to scratch, sell rotation options Iago Falque and Jake Livermore and bring in some quality players. These players are Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Eric Dier and DeAndre Yedlin, the latter will spend the rest of the MLS campaign with Seattle Sounders before linking up with the team.

Predicted Line up

Tottenham do have a good side, but some places are lacking certain qualities that they probably need to improve on for the Champions League. They could however easily address these problems by signing one or two real quality wingers and another good centre back.

Squad Depth

One area Tottenham excel in is squad depth. They have one of the best backup goalkeepers in the league in Michel Vorm, quality centre back cover in Younes Kaboul, midfield cover in Moussa Dembele and Nabil Bentaleb and striker options in Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane. With this kind of squad depth, Tottenham are almost guaranteed Europe.

Final Predicted Finish: 7th.

Although I think Tottenham have a really good side, I don’t see them achieving Europe this season as Pochettinho is likely to completely change the tactics and could even sell some key players.

Predicted Key Player: Emmanuel Adebayor.

What’s a team without goals? This question was asked numerous times when Andre Villas-Boas consistently played Roberto Soldado and Tottenham lacked goals. So this season, Adebayor will no doubt be the favoured striker and his goals could be the difference between Europe and no Europe.
