Season Preview - QPR.

Queens Park Rangers are the proverbial underdogs this season after scraping through to the Premier League thanks to an added time winner from Bobby Zamora in the play-off final. Many expect Q.P.R will go right back down to the Championship but during this article I’ll show you how they can stay up.

Transfers

It was a typical window for any side that had just been relegated to the Championship for QPR. They released or sold any players with high wage demands and brought in quality players who would bring something to the Championship but perhaps not the Premier League. The most notable transfer for QPR is Charlie Austin who joined from Burnley and proved to be a success as his goals were the key reason they made it to the play-offs.

This season has been a strange window for QPR. They have sold and released a lot of players that could have helped QPR in the Premier League and also released deadwood but it is the players brought in to QPR that have really caught people’s attention. In comes Rio Ferdinand, a man no longer needed by Manchester United, Steven Caulker, a promising young defender who has already worked under the current manager and Jordan Mutch, a fantastic young midfielder who will be a major coup for QPR if he rediscovers his best Cardiff form.

Predicted Lineup

QPR have a half decent side, they have a very strong defence, an ok but isolated in places midfield and a lone striker that is more than capable of finishing tough chances.

Squad Depth

The squad depth in the QPR side is fairly strong. If they can manage to keep hold of Remy then he will be the first team striker and Austin will be relegated to the rotation options. They have a decent reserve keeper in Rob Green, ok defenders in Richard Dunne and Traore, average midfielders in Matt Phillips and not many forward options. This rotation will probably allow QPR to cope with the hectic Christmas schedule and keep them in the Premier League.

Final Predicted Finish: 19th.

Although I think that QPR have a decent side, I just don’t think they will survive. The lack of real attacking options and the isolated areas in midfield could cause problems and cause relegation.

Predicted Key Player: Clint Hill.

Clint Hill is notorious for his solid displays in defence and his below average performances when QPR were relegated the last time were very much surprising. However, after a season of excellent performances last season in the Championship I expect Clint to carry his form into this season and perhaps his character and presence will surge QPR into safety.
