Season Preview - Man City

Last season’s title winners Manchester City will be hoping to build on their and retain the title for the first time in the clubs history. With the money available to Manchester City, there is no reason why they shouldn’t win the league again but this is the Premier League after all.

Transfers

Last season Manchester City had a strange transfer window. They got rid of deadwood in Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, Kolo Toure, Abdul Razak and Maicon and brought in players of a completely different style. They firstly brought in pass master Fernandinho, who cost them £30million from Shaktar and even though he’s not getting any younger he still plays to an extraordinarily high standard week in week out. They also brought in Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic, who all played their part in the title winning campaign and proved that they deserved to be in one of the best sides in Europe. However, Manchester City did also bring in shambolic defender Martin Demichelis, an utterly diabolical defender who is as slow as a snail and lacks certain qualities needed in the Premier League, but other than that, City had a good window.

This season has been a fairly similar story. They have cut ties with bit-part players Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott and Costel Pantilimon and replaced all three of them with Willy Caballero, Bacary Sagna and holding midfielder Fernando, players who will probably get limited action but they won’t care as they are guaranteed to win at least a minor trophy this season.

Predicted Line-up

Manchester City have the strongest squad out of any team I have covered so far, and apart from Demichelis, they have a world class defence, a world class midfield and a world class attack, so good that, that team alone may be able to win the league!

Squad Depth

Manchester City also have great squad depth. They have a great goalkeeper in Caballero, fantastic defensive cover in Sagna and Kolarov, decent midfield cover with the likes of Samir Nasri, Fernando and James Milner and good striking cover in Dzeko and Negredo. With this squad depth, Manchester City will go far this season and it’ll take something special from another team for them not to win the league.

Final Predicted Finish:1st.

Without a doubt, Manchester City have the strongest side I have covered and the best squad depth I have covered. Combine this with the fact they have a pot of gold to spend, a world class manager and fantastic supporters and you have yourself one of the best teams in Europe, so without a doubt I think City will win the league.

Predicted Key Players: EVERYONE.

This is a bit of a strange choice but as Manchester City are going for the league title, every single player needs to be key and every single player will be key to the sides success. You have your solid defence, your solid midfield and your solid attack and it’s hard to actually pick one player that will standout. However, if I picked one player it would have to be Sergio Aguero. If he scores the amount of goals he’s capable of then City will win the league.

  1. With all due respect, Demichaelis started the season VERY badly but improved in leaps and bounds as the year went on. As did his his performances for Argentina who used him in the world Cup final. Still probably the weakest link but credit should be given for his improvement.

    1. To be honest, when I was writing this article, I forgot to think about his world cup performances but I don't think he improved that much, he looked shaky at times even when he was playing well.
