Season Preview - Newcastle

Last season was a bit of a weird one for Newcastle. They started off poorly but soon picked up pace and went on a run that saw many football fans tipping them for European qualification. However, they eventually returned to the form we have begun to get used to with Newcastle and after an eight game losing streak, around 7000 fans took place in an organised walkout. Ironically they won that game 3-0 and it’s those kind of results Alan Pardew and his side will be hoping to replicate and earn his side a top half finish for the second consecutive season.

Transfers

Only because I feel I have to I will mention the transfer window Newcastle had last season. Nobody significant departed the club and the club ironically only made one signing, the loan signing of Loic Remy. This sent Newcastle fans into frenzy as they felt that they deserved better than one player and were eventually rewarded as Joe Kinnear left his role just before they went into overdrive.

This season has been better for the Magpies. In come Siem De Jong, Emmanuel Riviere and Jack Colback and although they have lost Loic Remy, Newcastle definitely come into this season a lot stronger and will probably be aiming high, you never know, if these signings end up being world class, European qualification could await Newcastle.

Predicted Line-up

Newcastle do have a good squad according to this line-up. Other than a centre back shortage and the problems that have arisen over Hatem Ben Arfa and his weight. I thoroughly expect Ben Arfa to be sold in this window and Newcastle to sign a new winger to take his place.

Squad Depth

Newcastle don’t have world class squad depth to be completely honest. Rob Elliot, Mike Williamson, Papiss Cisse, Anita and Obertan don’t really provide anything meaningful but luckily Newcastle don’t have European football so they should be ok.

Final Predicted Finish: 9th.

I think that this season will be virtually the same as last with poor patches, good patches and extremely poor patches, Newcastle should just scrape a top half finish and finish above probably one of Crystal Palace, Southampton and Swansea who will finish 10th.

Predicted Key Player: Tim Krul.

The now infamous keeper for his World Cup heroics, Tim Krul will be hoping to continue his decent form into the new campaign and produce more performances like the one against Chelsea last season. If Krul carries on this way, I expect Newcastle to finish well and possibly keep a few more clean sheets.
